Chile 1960. A peasant boy, son of a teenage mother, shows a prodigious talent for painting. He is discovered by a drugstore owner (Daniel Giménez Cacho) and amateur painter, who tries to make an artist out of the boy, like the artists he sees in his art books. Actor Daniel Giménez Cacho's brilliant interpretation of this character, says "it was nice to do a very tender interpretation of someone who creates his own little theater to live in it". From the memories of this old man, comes a story about someone who could have been an artistic genius. A story of lost innocence that ends in 1973 at the time of the Pinochet coup d'etat.
The film is based on the novel by artist and writer Adolfo Couve and was awarded the Audience Award at the 2011 Kerala Film Festival in India.

Spain conquered the New World for gold.
500 years later, water is gold but not much else has changed. A Spanish film crew led by an idealistic director (Gael García Bernal) and his cynical producer (Luis Tosar) come to Bolivia to make a revisionist epic about the conquest of Latin America. An Indian, cast as a 16th century native in the film within a film sails into action protesting his community's deprivation of water at the hands of multi-national corporations. When riots break out in Cochabamba protesting fees for water, production is interrupted and the convictions of the film crew are challenged. Director and producer are forced to make unexpected emotional journeys in opposite directions. Set against the backdrop of the real life 2000 "Water Wars," that fought against Bechtel and the privatization of Bolivia's water supply, this film blurs the line between fiction and reality in a powerful indictment of the plight of Latin America's dispossessed.
Winner of the Silver Ariel, 3 Goya Awards, Berlin International, Palm Springs, 6 Cinema Writers Awards & Best Film European Film Award. Nominated by Spain for the Oscar Award and many others.

This hilarious comedy reflects on Mexican idiosyncrasy-its lack of direction. Silverio Palacios, a failed trade unionist from Veracruz, transforms his old abandoned taxi into a raft and decides to sail to Miami in search of the "American Dream". Silverio, a passionate speaker of senseless speeches, prepares his most important one yet, to convince the American government to accept him, a political refugee, fleeing from Communism, risking
his life in search of freedom and better opportunities. A gust of wind and a failing compass transform Silverio's dream into an unexpected new reality for which he is unprepared. This charming film, shot in Veracruz and Havana according to its director, is a metaphor of the Mexican soul.
Winner of the Audience Award at the last Morelia Film Festival.

These are the descendants of the missionary Spanish soldiers who still lead the life of the California cowboys. These settlers fight against the elements of nature, they clean the water, curdle the cheese, tame the animals and take care of their orchards. With humor, grace and hospitality they open their ranches to us and we accompany them in their daily routines. An informative, profound and entertaining portrayal of families and characters, their love and rootedness in the earth and their harmonious relationship with nature.

This is "the never told story" of Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, the "Founding Father of Mexico" and his struggle for independence from Spain. From his jail cell, Hidalgo begins to remember moments of his life, his tenure as parish priest, his ideas of freedom, his translation and production of the stage play "Tartuffe" by Moliere, and his love of Josefa Quintana with whom he had three children. A spectacular production and a fine performance by Demian Bichir and Ana de la Reguera, the film reveals a fascinating man, a brilliant student, who was also a rebel with a passion for theater and literature. A man, who was a bon vivant, a lover of music, bulls, liberty and justice.
In the end a vibrant human being. A far cry from that mystic image of the benevolent, heroic old man , we meet a vital fighter, in love with life who will die for a Mexico without slavery and a caste system.

The Huicholes are a millennial indigenous culture that inhabits the Western Sierra Madre in Durango, Nayarit and Zacatecas. This documentary depicts their conception of the world, their relationship with their deities through dreams, water and fire, their concept of death and of the peyote cult. This is the first time they have chosen to share their secrets of the occult, with the aim of passing on their wisdom and attaining universal equilibrium. Once a year the Huicholes embark on a long purification pilgrimage to San Luis de Potosi, their ancestral land, to carry out the Mitote (Peyote) ceremony and communicate with ancestral spirits. The Peyote or Hikuri god, a source of wisdom, corn, venison, and sacred animals, is a key aspect of their very complex cosmogony. This is the story of men and women who, from this distant universe, are committed to practicing their ancient beliefs.

Ispansi ( Spanish in Russian) is a tender, human story of the consequences that the Spanish Civil War had across Europe. 30,000 Spanish children were sent abroad by the Spanish Republican government (3,000 to the Soviet Union) to spare them from Franco's bombings during the Civil War. Those who found themselves in Russia in 1941, had to face the invading German forces. They fled north from Stalingrad and struggled to survive a harsh winter in a remote village of the Volga region. It will be another twenty years until family reunions become possible in Spain, there are some who will never return to Spain. Rather than revive the politics of the War itself, director Carlos Iglesias focuses on a moving story of love and loss, and the suffering of this forgotten generation of expatriated children.

This is the story of the Bolivian city that went to war over water. It tells the stories of a mother who lost her son, an army general who was ordered to send troops against his own hometown, a homeless man who became a hero and a single father who cuts flowers to help shape the so-called triumph of the Cochabamba water war. A young filmmaker, who becomes involved in the people's struggle, finds he has no choice but to abandon what he believes in. What remains is an exploration of the lost relationship between man and water, and ultimately the lost relationship of man with himself. |

To walk into the jungle-shrouded village of Cinquera, El Salvador, is to enter a world where ghosts walk, passing back and forth between the past and present. Here, decades after a brutal civil war annihilated the village, survivors return to bury their dead and rebuild the community from the ashes. During the 1980–92 civil war, Cinquera was invaded by the National Guard, which targeted it as a potential haven for guerrillas of the opposition. Cinquera was literally wiped off the map. We see the result of that devastation on the composed and determined survivors who now are sowing the new seeds in their village.. Tatiana Huezo's stunning debut feature guides us through this landscape with a contemplative, poetical eye, as the deep forest looms in mute witness to the testimonies we hear.

All this is shown through motion pictures filmed during these events by the famous Alva brothers, cinema-photographers of the time.
It is a parade of images of well known and anonymous faces. Principal characters are captured in this artistic interpretation of this important period of Mexican history.

"The Loss" is a reflection on the exile of nearly two and a half million people, a whole intellectual, scientific and academic class, who, due to the political violence in the 60's and 70's were forced to abandon Argentina. Through interviews, we hear from a dozen exiled citizens who have worked successfully in their adopted countries.
Argentina suffered a profound social, intellectual and cultural undercapitalization, created mostly by civic-military dictatorships. This documentary is a vibrant testimony of the exodus of intellectuals, scientists, humanists, sociologists, and professionals who understood that they had no future in their country or were forced to abandon it fearing for their lives.
What would Argentina be like today if it had not been deprived of that brilliant generation?
