Greed for water and gold, beauty queens, California ranchers, national heroes and the Spanish Civil War, Cuban son and Huichol peyote, and a beautiful María Felix totally in love!
What do they all have in common?
Welcome to the ninth edition of the Festival de Cine de Todos Santos. Nine years of independent, provocative, and surprising Latin American film. Nine productive years of film with innovative and vibrant programming. Aesthetically significant films that discover new aspects of our local culture ingrained with Mexican and Latin American historical and social issues. With 25 films that express the vitality and diversity of Latin film our growth is evident this year. It is with great pleasure that we have added two new venues for our films, in La Paz, the Teatro Juarez and Galería Galería. We are continuing with our film program at the Universidad de BCS, always well attended by enthusiastic students.
Our award winning program, 'Youth in Video', has also grown, attracting ,this summer, almost 70 young people and kids from Pescadero and Todos Santos. We will enjoy their animated films and documentaries in the Children's Festival. A day of pride and film for the young filmmakers and their families. For the first time we begin our 'CineParque' program with an open air presentation of the film "Enamorada" (1949) starring the eternal diva María Felix, a work of art from the Golden Era of Mexican cinema. María Felix, with her timeless beauty,is the image of our 2012 festival.
Connection and dialogue with creative talent is an important part of our festival and we are honored by the presence of distinguished guests: Actors, Daniel Giménez Cacho and Dolores Heredia from México, Esther Regina from Madrid Spain. Directors, David Liles from San José del Cabo Maya Goded, from Mexico City, DF, Bobby Nicholson from California,U.S.A, Cesar Talamantes from La Paz.Producer Alain Petri.
The Rancheros from Baja California Sur.We mourn the passing away of the legendary actor, Pedro Armendáriz Jr., who was to receive our tribute for a lifetime of dedication to film.
After a delightful visit from Diego Luna during last year's 8th Festival de Cine Todos Santos, we have coordinated an association of our festivals, with his nomadic documentary film festival , "Ambulante," and are now united to a network of 12 states that share this exciting journey.
This year, "OSCAR" comes to Todos Santos! With a Gala party that will bring to town all of the glamour of Hollywood in the legendary Hotel California including Marilyn Monroe and María Felix! Time to enjoy film and its stars!
The committee of the Todos Santos Film Festival expresses its gratitude to all whom have made this cinematic adventure possible. Without the generous support of our sponsors, advertisers, members, volunteers, spectators and friends the festival would not have been made a reality.
Many thanks!
Lic. Sylvia Perel, Founding Director
