In 2011 the 'Youth in Video' program expanded, touching more children's lives than ever before. Over 70 children and youth from the communities of Todos Santos and Pescadero participated in the Youth in Video workshops and presentations.
In March, Amanda Ochoa of Todos Santos and New York University film student, volunteered to teach high school students the nuts and bolts of creating a comedy short film. Alonso Castorena Baraja , 17 year old student from La Paz, offered a presentation on "Film Appreciation" with an interesting selection of short films to Casa de los Estudiantes en el CECYT in Todos Santos.
'Youth in Video' invited two talented filmmakers from Mexico City to instruct classes for Youth in Video's annual summer workshops. Bertha _Aguilar Garcia shared her expertise in the art of animation with two groups of children, ranging in age from 8 to 13 years. One was held at Centro Cultural in Todos Santos and the other at the Meliton Albañez elementary school.Pierre Saint-Martin worked with high school students , for six weeks, on the creation and production of a documentary . Both instructors emphasized the technological skills of filmmaking as well as creative expression.
Two young filmmakers, David Liles and Luis Inés Sandoval Solís, from San Jose del Cabo participated in the production of a documentary " Behind the Scenes". This documented the workshops, and gave an excellent perspective on the mission of the Festival de Cine Todos Santos and our dedication to education through the powerful medium of film.
The goal of Youth in Video is to continue support and coach students presently in our program and provide opportunities for new participants to experience the joy and satisfaction of film creation for themselves and their community.
It has been a year with great activity, enthusiasm and support from the young participants and the community. We remain committed in our community to continue to offer programs that allow creativity to thrive in those who participate in our programs. We are privileged to be a part of this process.

"You can tell any story you want with animation, everything that is in your mind".That was how I started last summer's Animation Workshop. They smiled. Everything? As if they already knew the answer. Two days laters,-dolphins, boxing bears, living bacon, the Big Bang, the city, growing trees, colorful puppies erupted….These exercises from the Animation Workshop show the creativity, freshness and freedom of almost 40 children from Todos Santos. They decided the materials, the themes and actions of the characters. They animated daily scenes, their worries and wishes. They had enormous imagination, inquisitive eyes, a great power for abstraction, a line is a tree, a piece of paper flames., play dough could make everything possible.! They discovered life in daily objects, they imagined far away cities, exotic animals, even snow! They generated new possibilities in animation, suggested new ways to explore. Each short offers new possibilites for wonder.
